Sphero Raises $12.0M, Seeks $20M In New Funding
In an unusual move, Boulder-based robotic toy maker Sphero has appeared to have raised a new funding round worth around $12.0M, as part of an ongoing $20M fundraising effort, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing on Monday. No details on the funding have not yet been announced. The funding is the first funding for Sphero since 2015, when it announced a funding round worth $45M. That round included Mercato Partners, The Walt Disney Company, as well as other strategic investors. It's unclear who might be behind the new funding, which comes as Sphero spun out a new robot company, Misty Robotics and also a few months after the company had to cut some jobs after poor holiday season sales.
