Sphero Raises $23M, Aims At $43M In New Funding
Boulder-based robotic ball maker Sphero has raised $23M in a new, equity funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the company on Thursday. The funding document says that so far, seven investors have participated in the funding, which is targted at reaching $43M in total. Sphero--formerly known as Orbotix--develops robotic balls, including the Star Wars BB-8 toy. Sphero last announced a funding in 2015, in a round that was led by Mercato Partners, and also included The Walt Disney Company. Investors in this new funding have not yet been announced.
