Aereo Shut Down In Utah, Colorado
Aereo, the controversial television streaming service backed by Barry Diller, has been shut down in both Utah and Colorado, after a ruling by a federal judge yesterday. Aereo had been offering up a service which let Internet users watch broadcast television anytime they wanted, and had initially launched its service in Salt Lake City and in Denver. Citing the 1976 Copyright Act, U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball rules that Aereo was engaged in copyright infringement, violating the rights of broadcasters. Aereo had launched its service in August of last year in both Salt Lake City and Denver last year.
