Aereo Sparks Legal Battle In Utah
The expansion of broadcast television streaming service Aereo into Utah, has sparked a new legal battle between the startup and television networks, which just filed suit in the U.S. District Court in Utah. Aereo--which is backed by Barry Diller launched its service in August, letting consumers across the state queue up broadcast television shows for watching later, commercial free. Aereo has been fighting a running battle with broadcasters nationwide over its service. In the latest lawsuit, Fox Broadcasting Co., Sinclair Broadcast Group, KUTV, and Community Television of Utah filed a copyright violation suit against Aereo, for using its content without permission. Aereo's service revolves around the use of a cloud-based, digital video recording service to record broadcasted shows.
