Aereo Aims At Denver, Salt Lake With Internet Broadcast TV
Aereo, a startup developing an Internet service to let users watch broadcast television any time they want--and which is backed by Barry Diller--said today that it plans to open up access to its service in both Denver and Salt Lake City this year, part of a 22 city expansion effort. Aereo has developed a service which lets user record and re-play broadcast television on their PC, mobile device, or tablet, including remotely, using a special device and antenna. The service, which costs $8 a month, has so far only been available in New York City. Aereo, despite the backing of Diller and a $38M in venture capital, has been controversial, and is the target of lawsuit from broadcasters, who feel that the service is unfairly stealing their content.
