Avinti--now a part of M86 Security--has been granted a patent for an invention by two Utah inventors, according to M86 Security. According to M86, it received U.S. Patent number 7,607,171 for "Virus detection by executing e-mail code in a virtual machine", stemming from its acquisition of Avinti in March. The patent names Walter L. Marsden of Provo, Utah, and David E. Green of Pleasant Grove, Utah as inventors. The patent was originally filed in November of 2002. M86 Security said it is incorporating the technology from Avinti in a future add on to its email filtering services.
