University of Utah, BYU Tops In Technology Transfer, Says New Report
The University of Utah and Brigham Young University have both been ranked very high on a new ranking of U.S. universities based on their technology transfer efforts. The Milken Institute, a nonprofit research group, ranked the University of Utah as #1 in its efforts to promote technology transfer, the process of moving basic research into new technology, products, and companies, and ranked BYU as #4. Arizona State University was ranked at number 21. The Milken Institue said that American research universities are "among the nation's most powerful engines for domestic economic growth", and said that "funding to sustain their research brings strong returns in the form of new industries, businesses and jobs." Both BYU and the UofU beat such prestigious institutions as Stanford (#5), MIT (#8), and Caltech (#9) in the ranking.
