World View Gets $15M For High Altitude Balloon Payloads
Tucson, Arizona-based World View, which is developing technology to deploy high altitude balloons which hover over areas from far up in the stratosphere, has raised $15M in a Series B funding round. The funding came from Canaan Partners, and also included Norwest Venture Partners, Tencent, Moment Ventures, and Base Ventures. World View has developed what it calls "Stratollites", high altitude balloons which replace the use of satellites in many cases, to provide coverage over remote areas. The company said its "stratollites" can carry remote sensors, telescopes, communications arrays over areas for days, weeks, and months on end.
