World View Finds $26.5M
Tucson, Arizona-based World View, which is developingtechnology to launch high altitude, fixed balloons into the stratosphere, has raised $26.5M more in funding, via a Series C round, the company said Thursday. According to the company, the funding was led by Accel, and also included Canaan and Norwest Venture Partners. As part of the funding, Sameer Ghandi of Accel will join World View's board of directors. World View is developing what it calls "stratosatellites", which it says will offer low-cost, navigable and persistent high-altitude flight over customer specified areas of interest for weeks and months on end. The company says its vehicles will be a fraction of the cost of today's satellites.
