Gnip, Twitter Court Researchers With Data Grants
Boulder-based social data provider Gnip, and social messaging service Twitter are looking to make the firehose of Twitter messaging data on Gnip available to researchers, the two said yesterday. According to the companies, Twitter will award "Data Grants" to a number of researchers to gain access to its data, with that data coming exclusively from Gnip. The two said the effort is being aimed at making it easier for researchers to gain access to Tweets. The companies aid that researchers already have published papers in the areas of epidemiology, natural disaster response, international relations, financial markets, journalism and politics based on Twitter's data stream. The two said that grant applications and proposals are due by March 15th.
