Sprint, Clearwire Launch 4G In Salt Lake City
Telecom provider Sprint and partner Clearwire said today that they have both launched 4G service in Salt Lake City, as part of an expansion of those two firms' national network. Clearwire, which provides a wireless broadband service based on WiMax, said that its CLEAR 4G service is now available in the greater Salt Lake area, covering about 450 square miles and reaching 790,000 people. The firm said the service reaches as far north as Ogden, West Jordan, and downtown Provo and Lehi. Sprint--which is using CLEAR's network for its own 4G service--said that it has rolled out support in Salt Lake as well, making the firm's 4G service available in 36 markets across the country.
