sPower Signs California Customer for 100MW Solar Project

Salt Lake City-based sPower, which owns and operates renewable solar and wind projects across the United States, said on Thursday that it has signed a 22-year, 100 MW solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CleanPowerSF, a community aggregator of power that serves the City and County of San Francisco. Financial details of the PPA were not announced. CleanPowerSF is a California Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) managed by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). California has recently begun allowing cities and other groups create "Community Choice Aggregator (CCA)" groups which allow customers to select--for example--100 percent renewable power, rather than their incumbent power company. Those CCAs are popular with residents who are pushing for faster adoption of renewable energy than being mandated by California. According to sPower, the energy in the PPA will be sold from its San Pablo Raceway Solar Project located in Lancaster, California, which it says is expected to generate enough renewable power to power over 87,000 average San Francisco households.
