Zayo Plans Major Expansion In Indiana
Boulder-based bandwidth provider Zayo Group is planning a big expansion of its fiber network in Indiana, as part of a buildout of fiber-to-the-tower (FTT) connections for a wireless carrier, the company said on Thursday. Zayo did not name the customer, but said its plans will add connections to approximately 70 new wireless towers in Indiana, for a major wireless carrier customer. Zayo said the project will add minimal network extensions in Fort Wayne, Lafayette, and other areas in Indiana, using an existing network it maintains in the state. Indiana has been a major location for wireless build out efforts for wireless carriers, as Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have been battling to win the market; and most recently in July, AT&T said it would be expanding its 5G network in Indiana. It's likely Zayo's expansion is linked to those competitive efforts among those four wireless carriers in Indiana.
