DigitalGlobe Wins Rise Broadband
Westminster, Colorado-based satellite imagery provider DigitalGlobe has signed up a customer near home, Denver-based Rise Broadband, DigitalGlobe announced this morning. DigitalGlobe says it is providing elevation data to Rise Broadband, to help it enable faster and more efficient deployment of wireless internet services. Financial details of the win were not announced. The high resolution, surface elevation data that DigitalGlobe provides can be used by wireless internet service providers (WISPs) to predict fixed wireless broadband coverage. Wireless internet service providers often use bands which are notoriously dependent on line-of-sight from towers and hilltops for coverage. For its part, Rise uses Fixed Wireless LTE technology in its networks.
