Cotopaxi Expands Into Tents
Cottonwood Heights, Utah-based outdoor clothing and accessory brand Cotopaxi, which is venture backed by Greycroft Partners, NEA, ForeRunner Ventures, Lere Hippeau Ventures, and a long list of angels, has made a big expansion this morning--into outdoor gear. Cotopaxi said this morning that it has released its first tent, the Techo 3 tent, a three person tent with aluminum poles. The new tent is the company's first product outside of the clothing and accessory market, where it has been making jackets, shirts, windbreakers, and backpacks for outdoors enthusiasts. The new tent costs $279.00, and looks to be aimed at the midpoint of the market and brands such as Marmot, MSR, The North Face, Kelty, Mountain Hardware, Sierra Designs, and Big Agnes. Cotopaxi is very unusual for an outdoors gear company, in that it has garnered funding from many Silicon Valley stalwarts and angels for its efforts.
