Uber Back In Utah for Sundance
Smartphone-driven, car-for-hire company Uber said today that it is back in Utah--however, only for the annual Sundance Festival. According to Uber, it will offer up its smartphone driven ride service in Park City (with coverage of Salt Lake City International) through January 27th, as part of the film festival. Uber does not have a permanent presence in Utah, and has been facing massive protests in Colorado over its service, which lets users summon rides via their smartphone -- and has been bypassing strict taxi permit rules in the many cities it serves. Uber's move mostly impacts the private shuttle services which cater to picking resort visitors up at the airport and delivering them to Park City, particularly since Park City is compact enough to mostly walk around.
