Starz Drops Netflix
Englewood, Colorado-based Starz, the movie and entertainment service, said late Thursday that the firm has ended its contract renewal negotiations with Netflix, and will no longer supply content to the Netflix streaming platform when the current contract runs out on February 28th, 2012. Starz had been the primary supplier of recently released movies for Netflix and its online, streaming video service. Starz had originally inked the deal to supply the content to Netflix in 2008, and was the only mainstream content originally available on the Netflix service. Starz said the move was made to "protect the premium nature of our brand", emphasizing that the move would preserve the "appropriate pricing and packaging" of its content.
