NewsGator Shuts Online RSS Reader
Denver-based NewsGator told its users Thursday that it is shutting down its online, consumer RSS news reader, NewsGator Online, and is looking to migrate its users to Google Reader. According to NewsGator, users of its online RSS reader will need to migrate to Google Reader by August 31st, 2009. No reason for the move was given, but the firm says it will continue to support its desktop news readers, FeedDemon, NetNewsWire, and NetNewsWire for the iPhone, which will now sync with Google Reader. The shift comes as the firm has increasingly been focusing on its corporate customers, and away from its early beginnings as a consumer-focused RSS provider. The firm said that it is working directly with Google to synchronize its applications with Google Reader, which was a direct competitor to NewsGator Online.
