Zayo Acquires VoicePipe, Creates Services Unit

Regional broadband Internet service provider Zayo Bandwidth announced Monday that it has acquired a retail voice-over-Internet-Protocol service provider and formed a new business unit called Zayo Managed Services from that company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Zayo said its new acquisition, VoicePipe Communications Inc., originated as a hosted PBX offering of Colorado-based ICG Communications but was spun off in early 2006. Zayo explained that its Managed Services group will offer videoconferencing, hosted PBX, secure private data network, Web hosting, collocation, Internet access and equipment rental services. Dennis Kyle, an 18-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, has been hired to manage the unit as its president, Zayo added. Headquartered in Louisville, Colo., Zayo Bandwidth is a privately held company backed by Columbia Capital, M/C Venture Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Battery Ventures and Centennial Ventures.
