Webroot: Half of SMBs Blocking Facebook

Boulder-based Webroot, the developer of internet security software and web filtering products, reports today that a study it commissioned has found that half of small and medium sized businesses are now blocking access to Facebook. Webroot said the survey was conducted on more than 1,000 businesses from both the United States and United Kingdom. Webroot said the study found that about 81 percent of companies had an employee Internet policy, and 50 percent block all employee access to social networks. The firm cited company issues with possible virus or spyware infection, release of sensitive company information through employee use of social networking sites, and employee misuse for the blocking by companies. Webroot sells its own software to companies interested in blocking access to social networking and other sites from employee usage.
