Denver-based IT and colocations provider ViaWest announced this morning that it is being acquired by Peak 10, a Charlotte, NC-based provider of colocation services. The deal is worth $1.675 billion in cash. Peak 10 is owned by private equity investor GI Partners, and ViaWest is a subsidiary of Shaw Communications. GI Partners previously was also an investor in ViaWest, and will own the majority of the combined company. The companies said that Chris Downie, the Chief Executive Officer of Peak 10, will be the Chief Executive Officer of the combined company and Nancy Phillips, the Chief Executive Officer of ViaWest, will become the executive Chair of the Board. The new company says it plans to continue to grow at its Greenwood Village location.
