Venture Capital Totals Flat For Q2

PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association released its quarterly venture capital survey over the weekend, saying that there was $7.4B invested in 990 venture deals nationally in the second quarter. The MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) based on data provided by Thomson Reuters reported that investments were approximately flat from Q1, when there was $7.5B in 977 deals. In commentary on a conference call discussing the deal, local venture capitalist Trevor Loy of New Mexico-based Flywheel Ventures, which is an active investor in the region, said that what he's been seeing in this part of the country is consistent with data in the report. While Loy is concerned about the fact that there have not been any venture capital IPOs in Q2, and a sluggish M&A environment, Loy said that he believes that companies getting funding today will be the strongest companies five years from now, and will be extremely well positioned. He also said that Flywheel is seeing a convergence in the software, internet, and media industry, where that the Internet is increasingly becoming a channel where software and also media/entertainment is being delivered, and an area where Flywheel is investing.
