Uber Starts Self Driving Auto Pilot In Tempe

Ridesharing service Uber has kicked off testing of its self-driving cars in Tempe, Arizona, with Arizona Governor Doug Ducey the official first passenger using the self-driving cars. Uber moved its self driving cars to Arizona in December, after a high profile flap in California, where the State revoked the registration of Uber's vehicles after the company began testing them without the state's oversight. Riders in Tempe who use UberX may be matched with the self driving vehicles, if they are available, for their rides. Uber's cars are still being manned by operators, who--although they are not driving the vehicles--are monitoring the automobiles while they pick up and drop off passengers.
