Grocery store giant The Kroger Co. and self driving car startup Nuro said Thursday morning that they have selected Scottsdale, Arizona, as the pilot city for its self-driving grocery delivery efforts. According to Kroger and Nuro, it has begun accepting delivery orders for delivery of groceries from the Fry's Food Stores on 7700 East McDowell Road in Scottsdale, where it will provide same-day or next-day delivery via Nuro's fleet of self-driving vehicles. Kroger said it will charge a $5.95, flat fee for delivery of groceries using its vehicles--initially, self-driving Toyota Prius vehicles--but eventually, Nuro's custom R1 self driving vehicles. Customers can shop online via the frysfood.com website, or via the Fry's Food Stores mobile app. Kroger said the pilot program will allow it to better understand acceptance of autonomous vehicles.
