ON Semiconductor Buys LiDAR Maker SensL Technologies

Phoenix-based ON Semiconductor announced this morning that it has acquired SensL Technologies, a developer of LiDAR sensing products and related products. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. SensL is based in Ireland, and makes a number of components--including Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM), Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) and LiDAR sensing products--which are used across a wide range of industries, including the automotive, medical, industrial and consumer markets. LiDAR is a key technology being applied to the autonomous (self-driving) vehicle market, and is used to detect other vehicles and objects in the roadway, among other functions. ON Semiconductor specifically said the move will help it boost its presences in automotive sensing applications for ADAS and autonomous driving with expanded capabilities in imaging, radar and LiDAR.
