DISH Connects DVR To YouTube

Englewood, Colorado-based DISH said it has added a new app on its Hopper 3 DVR, which lets users gain access to YouTube. The company's DVR already has apps for such streaming services as Netflix, Pandora, and Vevo. DISH said the addition of YouTube makes it the only, nationwide pay-TV provider in the U.S. to deliver YouTube via its set-top box, as it continues to "blur traditional pay-TV boundaries." The move is unusual in that YouTube and other online streaming services, which encourage "cord cutting" are often cited as one of the biggest threats to cable and satellite providers. On the other hand, DISH has embraced that move to online streaming with its own service, Sling, which lets cord cutters stream traditional television and cable networks over the Internet, via subscription.
