BYU Team Wins International Venture Capital Competition

A team from Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Management has scored the top prize in the Venture Capital Investment Competition held over the weekend in North Carolina. The annual event--unlike most student business competition, which are focused on business plans--revolves around student teams playing the role of a partner at a venture capital firm, and going through actual startup business pitches, and coming up with term sheets. The teams work through the normal process of working with "partners"--actual venture capitalists acting as judges--to convince them of why they would invest in actual startup companies. The teams are judged by those real venture capitalists as those they would most like to have as their venture capital partner. The winning team was made up of BYU MBA students Jono Castleton, Jorge Montalva, Brad Hoke, Erika Nash, and Doug Hicken.
