Amazon Boots Colorado Associates Over New Tax Law

In the first fallout from Colorado's efforts to tax online retailers, Amazon.com, the big Internet e-commerce site, told its Colorado-based affiliates that it is closing their accounts. The affiliates--who help Amazon sell and recommend products, in exchange for a share of those sales--were told that the move came due to HB 10-1193, which was recently signed by Gov. Bill Ritter. Amazon said that the recently enacted law was "burdensome," and that no other states have similar rules. Amazon said that the new law is a "wrong way" for the state to pursue it revenue goals.
