SCO Courts Developers

Lindon, Utah-based SCO Group is courting developers with a new, cash-heavy incentive program. SCO said today that it is looking to reward developers for creating innovative, new mobile applications for wireless handsets with a chance to win a BMW M5 or $100,000 in cash. The company also said that it would pay a $1000 bonus to any developer that completes its EdgeClick developer training at its annual conference. EdgeClick is SCO's new mobile device operating environment. The firm, which is locked in a battle with IBM and others over ownership of Unix source code in the Linux operating system, has been struggling in recent months to attract more users to its SCO OpenServer and UnixWare OS environments. The company's new EdgeClick initiative focuses the firm's new efforts on mobile services and applications.
