Scan Picks Up $1.7M From High Profile Investors

Scan,, Inc., a startup developing a QR code reader for Apple iOS and Android, said today that it has raised $1.7M in a seed round. The firm, which was founded in Provo, Utah in the college apartment of friends Garrett Gee, Ben Turley, and Kirk Ouimet, said the funding came from Menlo Ventures, Google Ventures, Charles River Ventures, Yuri Milner’s Start Fund, Social + Capital Partnership, Transmedia Capital, and Ludlow Ventures. Angels involved in the funding also included Ariel Poler, Naval Ravikant of AngelPool, Jim Pallotta of Raptor Group and Troy Carter. The firm also now has offices in San Francisco. Scan said the funding will go towards hiring, as well as product and market development. Scan offers up a QR code reader which can be used on both iOS and Android phones, and also has launched a product to help businesses create mobile-friendly web pages.
