NanoSteel, With R&D In Idaho, Raises Funding Round From GM

NanoSteel, a developer of "nanostructured" steel materials, which has its research and development operations in Idaho Falls, has raised a round of funding from GM Ventures, Lear Corporation, and SPDG. Size of the funding round was not announced. NanoSteel said the equity funding also included its existing major shareholders. NanoSteel is developing high strength sheet steel, specifically for lightweight automotive applications. The company was founded in 2002, to commercialize patented steel alloys developed through research at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory.
