Sphero, Disney Part Ways: Goodbye BB-8
In a huge turn of events, Boulder-based robotic toy maker Sphero is parting ways with Disney, and will discontinue its populaar BB-8, R2-D2, Lightning McQueen, and other Disney licensed products, the company said on Monday. The change is a huge shift from the company's push in 2017, when its partnership with Disney drove a huge spike in sales for the company, due to BB-8 and those other Disney products. In an interview with The Verge, Sphero CEo Paul Berberian said the licensed toy business "required more resources than it was worth."
