ON Semiconductor, Nantero Develop Carbon Nanotubes
Phoenix, Arizona-based ON Semiconductor is in a joint venture with Woburn, Massachusetts-based Nantero, for the production of CMOS chips. The two companies said that they are in a joint development project to integrate carbon nanotubes in CMOS, which has the potential for high density, nonvolatile random access memory. Nanotube-based RAM is being targeted by Nantero as a replacement for memory in cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, and PDAs. The project is being conducted in ON Semiconductor's Gresham, Oregon manufacturing plant, which ON just purchased from LSI Logic.
