Milleniata Launches Optical Disc Technology
Salt Lake City-based Millenniata, a developer of optical disc technology, said today that it has released a new product which it says will provide up to a 1,000 years of permanent data storage. The firm said its M-DISC and M-READY disc storage technology is aimed at music, photos, video, genealogical records, business, permanent file backup, and other uses. As part of the launch, the firm said it is in a manufacturing and marketing partnership with Hitachi-LGData Storage to manufacture compatible DVD drives. Milleniata is headed by Scott Shumway, and says its technology is based on a non-dye layer, "rock"-like, backward DVD-format compatible disk format.
