Limelight Launches New Site Delivery Offering

Tempe, Arizona-based content delivery network provider Limelight Networks revealed Tuesday that it has launched a new service designed to improve delivery performance of websites while lowering operating costs. Limelight said the new offering, called LimelightSITE, is currently in use by more than 100 enterprise, e-commerce, financial and public customers. The business explained that LimelightSITE works by sending content directly from the edge to end users, thus bypassing a potentially congested, public Internet. The new offering differs from the company's existing media delivery options, in that it caches copies of an entire web site--including web page text and other objects--rather than just video files and multimedia--in Limelight's CDN network.
