IO Plans Split Into Two Companies

Phoenix-based IO, the data center operator and data center technology developer, said today that it is planning to split those two businesses into separate companies. According to IO, it will split into IO, focused on colocation and cloud services, and BASELAYER, which will focus on its modular data cener hardware and data center infrastructure management software. According to the company, the split is expected to be complete in early 2015. BASELAYER will be headed by IO co-founder and former CTO William Slessman; IO will continue to be headed by brother George Slessman (CEO) and Anthony Wanger (President). The split makes sense given widespread market confusion over exactly what IO's core business was all about, which may have quashed the company's 2013 IPO plans.
