Intel Plans To Restart Fab 42, Spend $7 Billion To Complete Facility

Intel Corporation said on Wednesday that it plans to restart its long-shuttered, Fab 42 facility in Chandler, Arizona, and will spend more than $7 billion to complete the construction of the facility. Intel had mothballed the facility back in 2014, due to slowing demand for personal computers. Intel claims that the completion of Fab 42 will create more than 10,000 jobs in Arizona, with approximately 3,000 directly created jobs at the site. The new facility will produce Intel's microprocessors using a 7 nanometer manufacturing process. Intel said it expects Fab 42 to be complete in 3 to 4 years. Intel did not say when the manufacturing line at Fab 42 will actually go live, and it appears that the timing of the announcement was made to curry political favor with the incoming Presidential administration.
