Gogo Plans Speed Boost On Virgin America

Gogo, the consumer, inflight Internet service run by Aircell, said Wednesday that it is planning a boost to its brandwidth on airline Virgin America. Aircell--which has operations in Broomfield, Colorado--said that Virgin America will be the first to offer its next generation ATG-4 service, which is says will "significantly enhance" WiFi capacity on planes, by about four times. Gogo said the install on Virgin America will begin in the first half of 2012; the upgrade involves a directional antenna, dual modem, and new EV-DO Rev B. technology. Virgin America has been using Gogo since May of 2009.
