GoDaddy.com To Stop Registering Chinese Domain Names

Scottsdale, Arizona-based GoDaddy.com has entered into the Chinese Internet debate, saying at a congressional hearing Wednesday that it will stop registering domain names in China. According to GoDaddy, the move comes due to new, intrusive government rules in the country which require applicants for domain names to provide "extensive" personal data, including personal photos, before registering a domain. The move follows a high profile tiff between China and Internet firm Google over censorship of Google's site, as well as hacking attempts originating in the country.
