CableLabs, RealNetworks Team On DRM

Louisville, Colorado-based CableLabs said today that it has approved RealNetworks' Universal Helix DRM solution for OpenCable devices for PCs. RealNetworks and CableLabs said that the approval will allow manufacturers to build cable-ready solutions for digital and high definition (HD) cable programming for PCs and home networks. RealNetworks DRM solution secures content through removable security modules, which encrypt cable content for delivery to PC platforms. RealNetworks' Helix DRM is a digital rights management solution based on RealNetworks RealAudio, RealVideo, and other video and audio formats. CableLabs is an industry group that provides certification and standardization of cable television standards.
