Brightkite Gets $1M In Funding

Boulder-based Brightkite, which is developing mobile, location-based social networking applications, has recently landed a Series A round of funding, Techrockies has learned. Martin May, founder of the firm, confirmed that the company had received a round of funding, but would not confirm the size or the source of the round. Brightkite--which was incubated in the TechStars program, the business incubation program in Boulder run by Brad Feld, David Cohen, and a group of other local angels--started handing out beta invites to the firm's service this week. According to the firm's blog, the funding actually closed back in March. David Cohen of TechStars pegged the round size at $1M. May told Techrockies that TechStars was not an investor in this round.
