Assurance Storage Targets Storage Software Market

Louisville, Colorado-based Assurance Storage, a new startup headed by Steve Visconti and Dave Powell, said this week that it has launched a new storage company aimed at delivering storage software to OEMs, based on technology it acquired from Atrato. Atrato was developing software aimed at the enterprise market, and went out of business in December of 2010. Visconti had previously served as CEO of Atrato, though he had left in 2009. According to Assurance Software, it will focus on solving issues with high rate of HDD failures, issues with cache scaling, and information lifecycle management (ILM). Visconti has previously served at Cisco Systems, Airespace, Ascend, Chipcom and Banyan Systems, in addition to Atrato; Powell was the co-founder and CEO of Greenplum, which was recently acquired by EMC.
