XetaWave's Software Defined Radio Selected For Smart Grid

Louisville, Colorado-based XetaWave, a developer of software defined radios (SDRs) used in communications applications, has been selected by smart grid developer S&C Electric Company, the two said today. According to the companies, XetaWave's SDR platform will be used by S&C Electric Comapny for self-healing, distribution automation systems used in the smart rid and energy area. Financial impact of the win was not announced. The companies said that the new SpeedNet SDR Software Defined Radios are being used for ultra-high frequency (UHF) bands, between 406 – 430-MHz and 450 – 470-MHz, in a deployment off the coast of the United Kingdom. Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology uses software, rather than hardware, to implement most of the functions which previously required dedicated radio hardware and components.
