University of Colorado Taps SGI For Linux Supercomputer
SGI is reporting that The University of Colorado has installed an 80-processor, SGI Linux system for studying the earth's atmosphere, as part of a project between the CU and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). The new system, which will be used to capture and process raw telemetry data from NASA spacecraft, will be used to learn about the layer between the earth's lower and upper atmospheres. The new system runs Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.
