USTAR BioInnovations Center Gets Green Cert

The new USTAR BioInnovations Center, the new research center at Utah State University affiliated with Utah's USTAR effort to encourage innovation and technology in the state, has just received the LEED Gold green certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. USTAR announced the certification Monday. The LEED standards are a set of building project standards which certify buildings for environmentally responsible features and plans. According to USTAR, the new high tech lab building provides almost 48 percent energy savings over the baseline for a similar building. The USTAR building was dedicated in October of last year. The Utah Science Technology and Research initiative (USTAR) effort is a state-funded investment which is aimed at making the state a center of technology and knowledge, to help generate high paying jobs. USTAR has significant investments at both the University of Utah and Utah State University.
