SolidFire Ties Into OpenStack Efforts

SolidFire, the developer of solid-state disk storage systems, said today that it has tied its products into the new OpenStack standards effort for cloud-based services. According to SolidFire, it is demonstrating its SSD systems along with Canonical, a reference architecture used for deploying OpenStack Compute and OpenStack Block Storage instances. Those designs are being used to help service providers set up their own, OpenStack-based clouds. OpenStack is a new standard, spun out of cloud hosting firm RackSpace, to allow any ISP to set up a cloud; the effort aims to let users move from one cloud provider to another without having to re-code their software. OpenStack offers up cloud computing capabilities similar to Amazon's Web Services.
