Ping Identity Launches Consumer OpenID Service

Denver, Colorado-based Ping Identity said today that it has launched a new Internet service focused on secure sign-on to Internet web sites. The new site, Signon.com, allows users to create an account to sign onto any OpenID enabled web site. OpenID is a standard for supporting identity verification across web sites, so that users do not need to remember usernames and passwords. Ping Identity said it will be adding support for OpenID and Microsoft's related windows CarSpace to its commercial products in the near future. OpenID is similar to Microsoft Passport, Microsoft's own identity management web service, which Microsoft has said it will support in its future products.
