O.co Hits Ten Years On Fair Trade Effort

Salt Lake City-based O.co, the online retailer which has been shifting to that name from Overstock.com, says that it has hit the ten year anniversary of its Worldstock Fair Trade department. The department, features within the e-commerce site, carries "fair trade" products from small artisans. O.co said vendors within that section of its web site get 60 to 70 percent of the sales price, and is aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods for artisans around the world. O.co also says it plows profits back from that department to charitable and philanthropic projects in the United States, Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi and Nepal. O.co said that so far, the department has paid out $70M to the artisans represented on its site.
