NewsGator Links Into Google Social Networking Effort

Boulder, Colorado-based NewsGator, a developer of software for monitoring RSS and blog news feeds, is part of a new effort by search engine giant Google to create an open application programming interface (API) for social networking. According to Google, which announced its OpenSocial effort this morning, NewsGator is one of a number of developers who are helping to test early iterations of its API. Google has signed on Bebo, Engage.com, Friendster, hi5, Hyves, imeem, LinkedIn, mixi, MySpace, Ning, Oracle, orkut, Plaxo, Salesforce.com, Six Apart, Tianji, Viadeo, and XING, all social networking web site, to support the new API. The API looks to be a response to a popular API program from social networking web site Facebook, whose efforts have been well received by third party developers.
