MyHeritage, BillionGraves Partner On Crowdsourcing Effort

Two, local companies with a big presence in the family history market are in a new partnership to crowdsource information from gravestones across the world, the two announced yesterday. MyHeritage, which has major operations in Salt Lake City, and Kaysville, Utah-based BillionGraves said the two are working on a global crowdsourcing initiative to help preserve information from gravestones around the world. The two said they'll work together to capture gravestones and information from graveyards across the world, to help families learn more about their ancestors and family history. The two--who already had a partnership to offer up gravestone records from BillionGraves to MyHeritage--said the deal will apply a "vast" volunteer base at MyHeritage to bolster BillionGraves records. Financial details of the deal were not annoucned. BillionGraves is owned by Otter Creek Holdings, and made a point in the announcement to say that it has NOT been acquired by MyHeritage. (Editor's note: yet).
